Dear Professor Rodwell,

I hope this letter finds you well,my name is Kaitlyn Fernandez. I am 18 years old. I am half Dominican half Ecuadorian. This year I am now an official freshman at ccny. My major is early childhood education. I decided on this major because I want to be able to influence young minds in a great positive way like I was, I also just enjoy their creative minds and I love to help them learn new things. If I were to describe myself I would say at first I am very shy and quiet but once I get the hang of things I am very open minded to basically anything I set myself to do. I consider myself to be creative, outgoing, and very patient.

My academic interest is English. I love to write but a goal of mine is to get better at writing. I want to be able to expand my vocabulary and learn how to structure my writing even better than now. Another goal of mine is to be able to learn how to expand my writing to be longer without taking the reader’s mind away from the whole idea of my writing.
After graduating from college I would love to go into teaching. I wanna be able to have my own class to teach, like I said previously I love to teach young minds. With teaching you have an impact on people and I want to be a positive one. When I look at the world now I see students who need more teachers who need help. With the covid impact it took a lot because the students who were actually struggling before who went in person don’t even get that much help because everything is remote, they don’t get the extra push of motivation like they did before. Some students probably even more students now question what their purpose is and it’s hard. Speaking from my personal experience I had people from my school who just came to school because they were forced to or just because, but didn’t really have a meaning for being there for themselves and the one thing they had was the teachers who actually gave them a sense of things and gave them a chance. I know in college you’re really going to take so much responsibility for your own choices and life in general but there’s always going to be that one thing that motivates you to be there and I believe that in teaching you can influence many people what their own purpose is or help them find their own path. That is why I really want to be a teacher when I complete college. I have chosen the classes I have, especially FIQWS, because I really do want to become a teacher in the future and I believe that this class will prepare me for what comes. I really do know fiqws will really impact me as well because I will be a better writer which will make me a better speaker which will lead me to being someone who can help others as well. Helping others is something that I really enjoy doing. It makes me happy no matter how long it takes. I want to be my very best and have a great understanding from a bit of everything, especially going into teaching in order to be prepared to help and teach others what I know. Other classes I have chosen to take are foundations of speech communication, creative expression, and development of u.s and its people. The reason as to why I picked these classes are for the purpose in helping me gain so many skills and knowledge for the rest of my life. These classes combined give me already so many ideas and I know by the end of each and every class that I will have learned so much. Since i’m a freshman here at ccny now I am looking forward to a new environment filled with new people, more opportunities and more of a chance of reaching my full potential as a student but as a person. I look forward to learning more about things I didn’t know before. Although I am looking forward to things, there are some things I am nervous about. I’m nervous of not being prepared because I’m so new to college I don’t really know how things work. I’m nervous about speaking publicly, especially to a screen filled with people I haven’t had the chance to meet. I’m nervous about having no help. At ccny there’s always resources I can go to which I love. I know within time things will get better,I just need to take that leap of faith.

Thank you for your time. I hope you learned more about me as a person and the type of student I am. I look forward to learning more with you and the rest of the semester.

Sincerely,

Kaitlyn Fernandez
